Whether we’re speaking as parents watching our children grow up, or as pilgrims on a journey to a promised land, our temptation will be to give in to fear. As parents, we’ll face constant temptations of fear for our children – for health, for safety, for their souls… Fear can plague us at any place in life – fear for our jobs, for our marriages, for our uncertain futures. At the source of our fears is unbelief: Is God going to be good to us? Does he have our best interests in mind? We need to answer these fears with the words of the Psalms:
Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.
